TG16 Takara Transformers Generations Decepticon Datadisk Set, a pictorial review

When I bought Soundblaster at Wal-Mart for $17.00, I knew I needed to buy the rest of the datadisk minions. Searching around all of the best sites for Transformers toys and collectibles, I found these little buggers on Tfsource.com for $15.00! I had to buy it then and there. So I pulled a Jefferson and a Lincoln from my wallet and sent my dad up to put them on his prepaid card. Why did I give him 25 bucks to take up? Shipping ain't cheap. $8.22 to be exact. Four days later (three business days) an over-sized box found itself in our GMC Yukon. Digging through the paper and bubblewrap for a couple minutes, I found this.

A bunch of Japanese on this box. I couldn't read a lick of it. Still wondering if the red one or the blue one is rumble. This picture cleared that up for me.

They are placed in the box next to their partners from the International version, and their cases are behind them.
I was confused and amazed that the Japanese packaging isn't heat sealed, but instead uses about a whole roll of Scotch tape. Or so it seems. The insert portion of the bubble has a small area at the bottom where the instructions fit perfectly.

I don't know what to do with this code, or what it is for. I do know one thing: I can't read it.
The instructions are curious and you get separate instructions for Rumble and Frenzy.
If you didn't see it the first time, here it is again.
Slag it! More Japanese I can't read. Oh well, I won't show Rumby's instructions because they are exactly the same as Frenzy's.

And removing the insert we have two humanoids and two uncomfortable looking beasts.
ERMAHGERSH! NO PAPER STRINGS OR TWIST TIES!
This is because the outer bubble is shaped to hold these guys in place.

Ah! That feels much better. Lets take a look at Frenzy/Rumble and Rumble/Frenzy.
They have the exact same paint applications all the way around, down to the very detailed detail on the disky parts.

Data disk mode is exactly the same too except for red/blue colors. it was interesting to me that Rumble gets a metallic sky blue coat while frenzy works with his basic plastic red color. Strange...

All four cases are exactly the same: clear purple with a light purple Decepticon insignia.
Speaking of purple, we move on to Ratbat. I really feel he should have come with Soundblaster, but whatevs, he looks good in this set and it goes back to the G1 two pack of Frenzy and Ratbat, which had the blue cassette as Frenzy.
Ratbat's basic body is the same as Laserbeak/BuzzSaw/Sunder. The disc detail has a base coat of black with gold tech-y looking paint. The other 3 members of this set all have silver.

I am not a cat person. Never was. But one cat I cant help to like is Ravage.  But where are the guns. this one also doesn't enjoy standing. His head and fore-legs are on the same flip bar but only the head is spring loaded. Also it seems his tail and back are actually a cape, no clips or anything to hold him together so it flips around like my loose lipped uncle's jaw. I almost wish the back was spring loaded.

The colors scream Ravage. black and silver really works here but the actual body shape needs work. there is a gap in his back where the head fits in disc mode. but it is the same as steeljaw who has a significantly larger head so the gap is huge and very blatant.

and disc mode is the same as everyone else. i tell ya these alt modes are getting a bit boring.

here comes Soundblaster. This could mean only one thing. GIMMICK TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!
everyone is in their data disc forms lets load them up!
