Transformers: War For Cybertron Review

This originally appeared earlier in my older blog page. I am transferring over to this blog because I no longer post on "Killaturkee and Transformers: my two favorite things" I hope you enjoy.

My new favorite game. IGN gave the game a rating of 9/10 for PS3, xbox360 and pc. I played the pc version on a laptop provided to me by my high school and i believe that this rating is very appropriate. Let's look at why.

First off, it has one of the most amazing story lines of video games that I have played. It takes place on Cybertron, the home planet of the transformers. You play first as the Decepticons. The first three Decepticons in the game are Megatron, Barricade, and Brawl. They are headed straight for an orbital ship which is controlled by former sky commander Starscream, his minions, Thundercracker and Skywarp, and Jetfire, all  of whom are Autobots at this point of the game. Once the Decepticons crash the ship into the orbiter, you have to jump across the wreckage to where Starscream and the others are. On the way there, you have a lot of Autobots to blast, which makes it all the more fun. when you get to about three quarters through the level, you encounter Starscream trying to destroy the Dark Energon, which is exactly what Megatron wanted to take away from the orbiter and give to all of the Decepticons, to corrupt the Core of Cybertron. Megatron, much to Starscream's dismay, gains control of the Dark Energon. The Decepticons make their way to the bridge of the ship and Starscream and his minions join the Decepticons, which marks the end of chapter one.

In chapter two, Megatron sends the three seekers to re-activate the Energon Bridge, in order to manufacture enough Dark Energon to corrupt the Core. The hardest part of this level is destroying the Autobot Battleship about halfway through the game.

Chapter three, you play as Megatron, Soundwave, and Breakdown. You stage an attack on Iacon, the Autobots capital city. In this level you fight the supreme leader of the Autobots, Zeta Prime. After you beat him, he gives Megatron a device that the Decepticons believe is the Omega Key, but Zeta reveals that it is just the key to the Omega Key, and Omega Supreme is shown being reactivated and begins to hunt down Megatron.

In chapter four, you make your way out of Iacon, playing as the same three characters as the chapter before. You have to dodge Omega's gun fire for most of the level as he chases you through the city. Soon you find yourself cornered at the top of the building, where you have to fight Autobot Drones and Brutes. If you get through these, Omega Supreme will begin to attack you in his jet form and laser cannon form, as the final Battle of the chapter. When you get enough damage on him, he falls to the ground. and the Decepticons jump down after him, sending you into chapter five, the final battle against Omega Supreme.

In chapter five, there are only two checkpoints, because you have to beat Omega Supreme two more times. first you have to Corrupt the Batteries that Omega uses to recharge himself. When he uses one of the corrupted batteries, you can start to lay damage on him. A skilled player like me usually only needs to use two or three to take him down and enter the second part of the Chapter. in the second part, Omega's Energon core is opened, making a target zone, but his weapons systems are boosted, adding to the normal damage he inflicts on you. When you get him down, it goes into the outro video, which shows the Decepticons at the Core. Megatron asks Starscream if the corruptors are in place and then turns them on, corrupting Cybertron.

Then you go into the Autobot story, which starts off by showing Bumblebee flying through the streets of Iacon. Optimus saves him from a group of Decepticon Drones, and tells ratchet to repair 'Bee. Bumblebee tells Optimus that Zeta is dead, and you go on a mission of trying to find your way to the Decagon, which is kind of the Knowledge base in Iacon. When you get there, you have to battle Starscream, who flies away after you get enough damage on him. The best way to beat him is to use fuse grenades and Optimus's axe. After you beat him, he leaves, and you receive a transmission from Zeta Prime, who is very weak. Ratchet is skeptical, but Optimus believes.

In  chapter seven, you let the Decepticon's capture Optimus, Bumblebee, and Sideswipe. Air Raid tries to save you, but he also gets caught, and you have to save him instead. I think that the Decepticons are kind of stupid though because they don't take away your melee weapons and Optimus cuts you out of every situation with his enormous Energon battle axe. The final battle is against Soundwave and his sons, Frenzy, Rumble, and Laserbeak, who are tougher as they go. When you get one of them down, you attack Soundwave, to get his health down when he comes out from behind his shield. When you get his health down to nil, he runs off and Zeta dies in Optimus' arms. Optimus takes Zeta to the high council and finally accepts his calling as a Prime.

The main idea of chapter eight is save Omega Supreme and get to the core. When you get to the Omega gate, you are barraged by Decepticon attacks, and you have to take them all out so that Ratchet can heal Omega enough to complete the Omega Gate Sequence, and open the gate. When the Gate is opened, you have to take out a tank, who has a weak spot in the back, so you have to flank it. When you knock all of its armor off, omega Supreme rips him in half and sends you on your way. On the way to the Core, you find some strange creatures called Space Slugs, and also a Dark Energon Worm created by Megatron. You ride on the backs of three Slugs, who are equipped with turrets to shoot at the Decepticons that the Slugs don't eat. You get attacked by the worm and find yourself closer to the Core, which you walk up to before you battle the Worm as the Boss for this Chapter. It isn't too terribly tough, but it makes a good boss battle. The Core then gives Optimus prime the Matrix of Leadership because the Core must sleep for millions of years to cure it's corruption.

In Chapter nine, the Autobots begin to leave the planet but are blown out of the sky by an orbital cannon. Optimus sends Silverbolt, Jetfire, and Air Raid to the cannon to take it out. They make a discovery that the gun is actually a Decepticon named Tryptocon, a large Dinosaur-like Robot. you have to blow up his jetpack on the way to Cybertron.

He hits the ground hard in Chapter ten, and then you have to use Optimus, Bumblebee and Ironhide to defeat him twice. He is a tough cookie, though and you better be ready to dodge missile fire and attack a crap load of Spiders. for the spiders, it would be wise to use Ironhide because if you collect enough energon shards, he has a pretty cool attack, where he spins with his axe and desroys all enemies in the immediate area. You have to take out all three, yes three, Energon cores on his shoulders. If you use a Null ray it makes it a lot faster and you don't have to kill as many spiders. When you finish him off, you watch the final outro.

The game also has good graphics and weapon design, as well as robot and vehicle body design. The sequel is called Fall of Cybertron, and by the look of trailers I have seen, looks like a very good game, and I would like to get it.
